ZPMC orders compressors to pipelay vessel

Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (ZPMC) has placed a substantial order with TMC Compressors to deliver a complete marine compressed air system to a pipelay vessel the Chinese shipbuilder is constructing. 

TMC will supply a major marine compressed air system consisting of 4 x working air compressors, 4 desiccant air dryers, 2 x instrument air compressors and desiccant air dryers, 4 x starting air compressors, 4 x high pressure compressors for the vessel’s tensioning system, plus 4 x high pressure air dryers. TMC has not disclosed the value of the contract.

“As our scope of work suggests, this is a sizeable contract for us, for a large and impressive pipelay vessel. We will provide numerous very energy-efficient compressors designed to keep operating expenditure and emissions to air as low as possible for the vessel operator,” says Hans Petter Tanum, director of sales and business development at TMC.

ZPMC’s newbuild is a JSD6000 derrick pipelay vessel with an overall length of 215.88 metres, a width of 49 metres and a draft of 10.83 metres. She can accommodate 399 people. The ship is equipped with 5,000 tonnes of full-slewing cranes, J-Lay, S-Lay two-type pipe laying system, 8-point positioning mooring system, and DP3 dynamic positioning system.

By optimizing the layout scheme, the ship can effectively combine the two types of pipe laying systems, which can realize the single-ship pipelaying operation under shallow water, deep water and ultra-deep water. The laying pipe diameter covers 6-60 inches, and the pipe laying has a maximum water depth of 3,000 meters.
